November

Distance control
To improve your distance control when putting, ensure you line up and strike the ball from the same spot on the face each time, allowing greater consistency of strike and pace. Matching the weight and design of your putter with the speed and pace of the greens you play regularly are also key considerations for achieving distance control. For example, if you generally play on fast greens, you may prefer a putter with a softer insert.

Whittlebury Park - 17th March

Merrist Wood

"Krume conquers in first event of the season!"

Event:

Whittlebury Park Golf and Country Club

Date:

Monday 17th March 2008

The first Total Golf Club event of 2008 took place at Whittlebury Park Golf & Country Club recently, despite the weather! Only 2 days before, the course had been waterlogged, with heavy downpours and snow and ice preventing any chance of drying out. However, undeterred, a small but hardy group of members took to the fairways with waterproofs and umbrellas at the ready.

Despite the sodden fairways, the greens held up extremely well and against all the odds, scoring was very high. With plenty of well-positioned hazards, including lakes and rain-filled bunkers, everyone finished the 18 holes in good spirits and gathered back in the clubhouse for a well-earned hot meal and liquid refreshments!

In the main competition, first place went to Roger Krume, with a splendid 34 points, whilst 2 nd slot was claimed by Nick Creal, with 31 points, winning on count-back from Mark Bailey who also scored 31 points. Unfortunately no-one managed to get on the green on the nearest the pin hole but longest drive was awarded to Nick Creal, with a massive 300yds+ drive off Red 9 tee!

So, a great start to our 2008 season, and the launch of our Order of Merit league sees Roger Krume take poll position with 6 points, with Nick Creal just behind with 5 points and Mark Bailey with 4 points. With 7 more competitions planned, this league table is bound to change constantly but just another good reason to come along and join us.

We look forward to seeing more of you at our second event at Merrist Wood Golf Club on Friday, 25 th April. For morel details, just click on the event and we hope to see you there!

Happy Golfing!
